Just Married!
Wedding Stories from Jewish Maryland
The “Just Married!” exhibit at the Jewish Museum of Maryland explored how couples have historically negotiated their Jewish and American identities through the lens of a life-changing moment—their wedding. The exhibit showcased more than 50 marital objects, dating from the 1830s to the present.
The exhibit logo was designed to feel like a wedding invitation; the letterforms’ flourishes present a festive air, while their strong serifs nod to cultural convention. Adding coral to the color palette brightened the room while still allowing the textiles, the stars of the show, to have their bridal moment.
Featured stories varied widely and included secret elopements, interfaith unions, and same-sex marriages. Artifacts adapted as wall graphics and videos playing throughout helped visitors step into each couple’s big day.
