Maryland Public Health Lab
Making a statement for groundbreaking research
Maryland Public Health Lab is a state-of-the-art facility and home to laboratories pioneering research in epidemics, infectious diseases and bioterrorism. Ashton created signature signage for the building to reflect not only the level of science, but also the care for humanity, that takes place within its walls.
Located in the Johns Hopkins Science + Technology Park, the building’s main exterior is sleek and contemporary. We designed 18-foot, open face letters to attach to the entrance’s perforated metal screen. Their central openings reflect the open-minded thinking happening inside.
Additional exterior graphics complement the building’s materials while still creating impact. Surprising details, like wrapping signage around corners, are engaging cues to guide visitors around the space.
Inside, we wanted to celebrate, without interrupting, the building’s light, bright aesthetic. Our understated signage and graphics add to the uplifting air, employ a mix of high-quality materials and tone-on-tone medical patterns, and reinforce that here, anything is possible.
