MICA Fred Lazarus IV Center
MICA Fred Lazarus IV Center
Maryland Institute College of Art, 2015
The Fred Lazarus IV Center, is a former sewing factory that now serves as a dynamic art hub for graduate and undergraduate students. The open plan interior provides over 3,000 sq ft of exhibition space but challenged us with the need to develop a signage system that didn’t rely on utilizing walls. The wayfinding and directory takes advantage of the building’s columns and are accented with hints of red. The exterior signage boldly establishes MICA’s presence in the Station North Arts & Entertainment District with a large painted ID running vertically down the building and an illuminated “Maryland Institute College of Art” that wraps the corner of the building.
