Sparkman Wharf
Sparkman Wharf
Strategic Property Partners & Of Place, 2019
Sparkman Wharf is a waterfront destination in downtown Tampa designed for work and play. Named after the region’s first congressman — Stephen Sparkman, who secured the funding for Port Tampa Bay — it now celebrates his legacy. The upgraded retail and office space now offers waterfront views and features an event lawn, biergarten, and a pop-up style dining garden comprised of stacked shipping containers, designed by Groundswell with painted murals by Pep Rally.
Ashton expanded on Sparkman Wharf’s visual experience by designing an iconic illuminated entrance sign, an illustrated map, regulatory and directional signage.

We designed a large iconic sign at the main entrance to serve as a highly visible welcoming beacon. The illuminated dimensional letters are integrated into the vertically stacked shipping containers along with decorative metal mesh.

A stylized and detailed map was illustrated specifically for the space, featuring key points of interest in a monochromatic but vibrant branded color palette.

A popular favorite on social media channels, the iconic sign and map also function as a notable backdrop for visitors to pose in front of for photos.

We developed conduct signage throughout the space with clever and lighthearted messaging, adding some levity to the rules.

A series of portable a-frame signs were created for special events and occasions with a high volume of visitors.

Large, thematic wayfinding graphics were applied to key high-traffic areas. A faux illustrated shipping container was added to the interior restroom wall.

We explored numerous concepts for the pylon signage and restroom mural, each one featuring a distinct visual style, but remaining cohesive with the space’s overarching brand aesthetic.
