The Six

Artist-inspired apartment living

Transwestern Development Company wanted to ensure their latest project would be a dynamic, meaningful addition to Hyattsville, MD, a historic town outside of D.C. known for its artistic community. From choosing the name to designing the signage, we helped their team build an unexpected, eye-catching brand that championed its residents while embracing the individuality of its hometown.

The Six’s target audience was creative young professionals who enjoyed city proximity but also sought to be part of an engaging community. The brand identity reflects this: the center aperture of the logo’s abstracted “6” can also serve as a window into life in Hyattsville, while the color palette takes its cues from a painter’s mixed palette.

The Six’s name was inspired by Hyattsville’s six historic neighborhoods, whose diversity and spirit were the starting point for the brand.

We then extended this concept to a number of brand touchpoints. Take “The Six Rules to Live By”—it allows The Six to communicate in a way that benefits its residents while showcasing its personality.

Described as “the heart of the brand,” this language cements The Six as welcoming and energizing. While the value statements can be shared all at once, they also work equally well as stand-alone statements on other brand applications.

A dynamic splash page announced the brand and allowed The Six to gain momentum ahead of its opening.

The site interfaced with The Six’s social media feeds to capture hundreds of new emails, which could later be contacted for leasing opportunities.

Colorful construction banners created “coming soon” intrigue. Playful messaging made the most of The Six’s numerically based name.

Exterior signage was designed to make the most of the building’s verticality, which also optimized sight lines from the nearby highway. The tall blade sign feels like a natural extension of the building.

Inside, a large map graphic reinforces The Six’s Hyattsville location and anchors the entrance in the brand’s ethos of being a community-focused space.

Interior signage leans into materiality as a nod to The Six’s artistic roots. The mix of natural tones and textures adds another layer of earthy richness to the rest of the decor.
