The St. Paul’s Schools
Creating a singular, shared campus experience
The challenge: three separate schools spread across one 120-acre campus sought a comprehensive signage and wayfinding system to help visitors easily navigate the campus while still honoring each institution’s rich legacy. Ashton helped them define the space and create a unique sense of place by strategically designing, mapping, and situating more than 350 individual elements across the grounds.
First, we designed a tricolor identity system for the schools that allowed for individual pride in a unified form. We then used this system across the site to communicate to guests which areas of campus corresponded to each institution.
New freestanding directionals are anchored by rot-resistant cedar posts that match the campus’s park-like aesthetic and feel at home among its rolling hills. Vinyl text allows content to be easily updated, if needed.
Ashton worked with St. Paul’s to reimagine sign locations and destination nomenclature sitewide. The goal was to make navigation as intuitive as possible for faculty, staff, students, and guests alike—a critical part of the design process.
A master campus map, plus school-specific maps, make for a more approachable property experience, both in person and online. Each uses a color-coded system.
On site, new athletic signage, including field ID signs, dimensional lettering, and field supergraphics, foster a stronger sense of place and pride for the schools’ teams.
